Earlier this week, Foo FightersDave Grohl performed AC/DC‘s “Let There Be Rock” in the BBC Live Lounge, but still, there’s nothing like having a little help from your friends. As such, he invited The Hives’ Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist to join Foo Fighters onstage in Almqvist’s hometown of Stockholm, Sweden.

“This is how much I f–king love this person and the band this person is in,” Grohl stated revealing that he once dressed as Almqvist for Halloween. “This person happens to be from this city, so it’s nice to be reunited with him. It’s been a long time,” Grohl stated before Almqvist made his presence known, wearing a “Boogie Till You Barf” t-shirt.

“Tonight I thought it would be a good idea if we did a song together, one that we’ve never played with him before, but I think it makes perfect sense for this show,” said Grohl. “I’ve always wanted to sing this song,” Grohl added while playing the chords to Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven.” But it was all a ruse, as the singer stopped and stated, “Actually, that’s not the right song. The real song sounds like this,” before the band launched full-on into AC/DC’s “Let There Be Rock.”

Anyone who has seen the Hives is aware of the live wire that Almqvist can be onstage and the Foos seemed to enjoy his exuberance. At one point, guitarist Pat Smear can be seen stopping and watching Almqvist with a big smile. The singer pulled off his “Boogie Till You Barf” shirt in favor of a Suicidal Tendencies shirt he was wearing underneath and he finished the performance crowd surfing, then returning to the stage, bowing to the band and scurrying off the stage as they finished up the song.

The invite-only show took place Thursday (Sept. 14) at Vasateatern in Stockholm on the eve of the release of Foo Fighters’ Concrete and Gold album.
