Metal Blade Records Biography Coming Out This August Foreward

There’s no denying the importance of Metal Blade Records, if only because it helped launched the career of some little-known thrash band called Metallica. Now a full 35 years later, the label’s history will be chronicled in a new book called The Sake of Heaviness: the History of Metal Blade Records.

The book will be released via BMG on August 29, and was written by Metal Blade CEO Brian Slagel with the help of Author Mark Eglinton. The book will discuss the label’s early days of Slagel building things up from nothing, to working with Metallica, Motley Crue, Thin Lizzy, Alice Cooper, and up to the label’s present day dealings with its impressive roster.

Here’s what Slagel had to say about the book.

“I have been asked many times about doing a book about the history of Metal Blade and it just seemed like a cool thing to do to document the 35th anniversary. You never really stop to think about a lot of this stuff, so doing the book is a great way of looking back at how many awesome things have happened to me and Metal Blade.”

Oh, and Lars Ulrich will be writing the foreword! Which seems appropriate.
